These specialties listed above are just a few of the areas of study in UW–Madison’s Professional Master’s Program in Computer Sciences, which combines classroom learning with an internship that provides practical experience in the field at companies such as at Google, Apple, Facebook, Microsoft, and promising startups. Students typically graduate in one to two years, many with job offers at prestigious tech companies.

Students in other professional programs also benefit from the expertise of UW–Madison’s computer sciences department. This includes a range of data science and analytics programs, the new Capstone Certificate in User Experience Design, and the Capstone Certificate in Computer Sciences, an evening and weekend program that helps professionals hone their software-development skills.

Computer Science Rankings identifies how many faculty are doing research in a range of computer science subfields at different institutions. Several metrics determine the rankings, including faculty’s contributions to scholarly journals and selective conferences.
